Chonnam National University Yeosu Campus Student Wins Excellence Award at “2025 University Students’ Model APEC Summit – Talk in Korean”
Jiang Yalin (Graduate School of Industry-Academy Cooperation, Trade and Business major, China), an international student at Chonnam National University Yeosu Campus, won the Excellence Award at the “2025 University Students’ Model APEC Summit – Talk in Korean” held on August 26 at the Comodo Hotel Banwolseong in Gyeongju.
This competition was organized as a side event to support the successful hosting of the “APEC 2025 KOREA Summit” to be held in Gyeongju this fall. It was hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
As part of the subprograms of the “2025 University Students’ Model APEC Summit”, the competition provided international students with the opportunity to showcase their Korean language proficiency and share their experiences in Korea.
Having passed the Jeollanam-do preliminary round held at the Provincial Government Office on July 23, Jiang Yalin advanced to the finals along with 13 international students who had been selected through regional preliminary contests across the country. Participants gave Korean-language presentations on the theme of “Experiences of Studying in Korea and Future Vision.”
Presenting under the title “A Successful Study Abroad Experience in Jeonnam,” Jiang Yalin remarked, “Many international students prefer to study in the metropolitan area, but I was able to gain valuable opportunities to learn, work, and grow at the Yeosu Campus. I wanted to share that studying abroad in Yeosu is a truly worthwhile choice,” earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In her acceptance speech, Jiang Yalin said, “I was very nervous to compete against such talented students who advanced through regional preliminaries, and I was reminded of how many international students speak Korean so well. I sincerely thank the Global Education Institute staff at CNU who supported me with manuscript editing and presentation preparation, starting from the Jeonnam preliminary round.”
Bang Ho-sam, Director of the Global Education Institute, commented, “This award is a meaningful example that the education and experiences at the Yeosu Campus can lead to great achievements for international students as well. We will continue to provide active support so that students can learn the Korean language, experience Korean culture, and adapt successfully to life in Korea.”
